Somewhere Beyond the Sea?
Ok well two days ago i downloaded BioShocks Demo for the PlayStation 3 and from here on out i want to let every reader know that i have played BioShock 4 days straight on the Xbox 360 when it was released first on Normal and then on Hard and i managed to get 900GS out of it and the graphics and loading times were superb. Now having said that the playstation 3 demo version plays just like the xbox 360s demo so there will be no fanboying around here, I actually re-downloaded the 360’s demo so i can do a side by side before writing this “review” so that everything will be equal.
The Logos:
First off the xbox 360 version of the demo has less company logos appearing before the menus. But the PlayStation 3’s version has few extra companies that have probably been hired to help them out with the cell engine. The PlayStation 3 has few extra bumps before the menu actually over the 360 for some reason the Menu has to be loaded after all the logos have shown but the 360 loads the menus while the logos are being shown so that is bad for a year or two old game port. Another issue is that the game has Auto-Aim on for the PS3 which seems dumb for a First Person Shooter. There are few things about the games settings that are better than 360’s demo first of which is that the demos subtitles are smaller and cleaner than the 360’s huge subs.
The Loading Times:
As stated before the ps3 has more loading than the xbox 360 has, and this could be again due to the Cell microprocessor not that its not advance or anything, but rather its hard for companies to learn such a complex engine over xbox 360s normal PC based PowerPC Tri-Core Xenon, so having said that the PlayStation 3 version of the DEMO has longer loadings that the xbox 360s full/demo anywhere from 2-3min over 360s 1-1:30min loading times.
The Menu/HUDS:
Well the main menu and the heads up display of the game hasn’t changed per-say the only differences is the button mappings / controller logo and icons of X360 Vs PS3 and that is about it, which is very good for any long time fan of the game.
The Gameplay:
BioShock on the PlayStation 3 P.L.A.Y.S just like it did on the xbox 360 but rather a little slower in the players movements i have to say this really loud and clear, that the main player walks a little-bit slower on the PS3 demo and this might be just a demo fault but its just much slower and it is noticeable from time to time. The guns play just as they did on the 360 and the wrench looks like the textures have been change and the color looks brighter and cleaner which kinda looks strange.
The Graphics:
If you don’t want to read on i understand which is why this part of the article is only visible for people who have jumped from index to the full article…
I am sorry but i have to say this the graphics seem much lower and so does the resolution of the game its seems like its not even 720p but a upscale, this can be noticed but the dull and fogy textures, which just seems worst when you get close. Now like i said before i have both ps3/xbox 360 so i compared the demo not to the full xbox 360 version, having said that it seems as if bioshock’s textures have been downgraded (Changed to a lower resolution) for some reason, only one reason can come to my mind is that they could not figure out how to display HD textures with the older version of Unreal Engine 3. So as you get close to the model of a vending machine or just steps of a stair or the handle bars of the stairs the textures seem lower… Much lower. Which is a very disappointing thing to see to a game that has been developed 2 years ago and is being re-coded to work on ps3 and include trophies. It just doesn’t seem to have clean crisp textures to me. Now your saying to your self “This guys a fan boy bla bla bla” but i spent nearly 96 hours playing bioshock (in four days) and i was amazed by the textures and modeling of the game but alot seems changed for the worst on the ps3’s (DEMO) which doesn’t look good.
I have to give the demo a 7.3/10
Graphics: 6.2/10
Sound: 8.9/10
Controls: 10/10
GamePlay: 9/10
