I wouldn’t necessarily call this a hack, it more or less seems like Sony’s intention; nonetheless, quite the discovery courtesy of silenoz… Using the BD-J (Blu-ray Disc Java) platform we’re able to launch Java games direct from the XMB. Case in point: Blaster Bunny.
And who knows… Maybe one thing will lead to another…
Tutorial:
Download the BD-J game (Blaster Bunny).
Unzip the file
Copy the contents to the root of a USB/Flash drive
Go to the device in the video menu and launch “AVCHD”
Go to BONUS and click GAME to launch Blaster Bunny
Unload full clips on them busters at an alarming rate with Console Customs Sixaxis and Dualshock 3 controller mod. The tutorial details the necessary steps for old & new [controller] PCB layouts.
Required tools:
Soldering iron (a cheap 15w/30w from radio shack; about $15)
Solder (use rosin core solder from radio shack so there is no need for flux)
Wire strippers (that can strip 30ga wire, a 30ga wire wrap tool from radio shack includes a 30ga stripper $8)
Wire cutters
Hot glue gun
3/16 drill bit (or close to it)
Small pocket knife or razor blade (optional but helpful)
Be warned: using this mod while gaming online is considered cheating; don’t be stupid, play fair.
Proceed with installation at your own risk. PS3 Hacks or Console Customs are not responsible for any damage.
Activision just announced that the COD 4 Variety Map Pack will be available on the PlayStation Network on April 24. And yes, it will be available on that date in both North America and Europe.
Additionally, there will be a PS3 Variety Map Pack Double XP Weekend this coming weekend for both continents, and Friday, April 25 will see members of the Infinity Ward team playing online on from 11AM to 2PM PST and from 5 PM to 8 PM PST. So, you know, you can see if you really are just as good as the “pros,” if not better.
Most of us PS3 owners got our hands on the GT 5 Prologue and I’m just typing away some flaws I noticed in the game which I hope in GT 5 they will work it out.
Flaw #1: The car physics, and hitting objects. In games like FM and FM2 it calculates the real physics and angles count, but in GT5 P doesn’t really matter, the car just spins as if it was RidgeRacer 2!
Flaw #2: There are about 2 or 3 vehicle settings in the game. Whether you are driving the Tii or the Fiorano just like in GT, GT II, III & IV when you get your hands on all the upgrades all the upgraded cars behave similar. Back in one of the older GT games a tuned up TVR cerbera has exactly the same config, top speed, gear ratio, etc… of a tuned up Mitsubishi 3000…
Flaw #3: Jaggies, even by using 1080P and it is very similar to PGR3
Flaw #4: PGR3 on SONY (Too familiar, and too similar to PGR3)
Flaw #5: AI, very dull and stupid and as if they weren’t already confused enough around the track, but they actually attempt to over take each other which results into them crashing into each other…
Flaw #6: You get the Ferrari F1, but You can’t take it online. All cars should be subject to Online play.
Flaw #7: Even though its a Demo, but no damage models and I know its on its way, but I was really hoping for damage.
Flaw #8: The Loading time. Tried it on 3 different PS3s and every single one returned the loading time.
Flaw #9: Unnecessary menus. Wanna Race? Choose the car and track and jump in (FM2 ;))
Flaw #10: Bad online experience, unreliable information. At a moment you might return a lap record of 13th fastest, but it actually turns out to be 27th at the exact time, not mentioning others doing better times after you’re done…
Flaw #11: The Racing line, as its clearly slow and non responsive compared to FM & FM2
All in All impressive shadow of what hopefully is coming out this century.
80GB PlayStation 3 Back on Sony Style
Sony announced that the 80GB PlayStation 3 model would return as part of a Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. Expected to launch alongside the release of the game on June 12, the upcoming 80GB PS3 bundle is now officially listedon Sony’s U.S. online store as the only option for a hard drive of that size. The model number for the new SKU is PS398011 and lists for $499.99.
“Model Number: PS398011
PLAYSTATION®3 (80GB)
Take your gaming to the next level with the 80GB PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system featuring PlayStation®2 backward compatibility***, new DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller and the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game.”
Sony released yesterday the latest system software (Ver. 2.30) for the PlayStation 3, which brings a revamped version of the PlayStation 3, previously a Web-based storefront. The new PlayStation Store now runs natively as an application on the PlayStation 3 system, dramatically improving navigation speed.
But it seems this won’t be the only major update Sony plans to roll out in 2008. Peter Dille, Sony Computer Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, has announced that the company will deliver an in-game XMB (XrossMediaBar) this year:
“We know you want in-game access to XMB features and we’re committed to bringing that, among other community-related services this year.”
Furthermore, Dille claims that Sony will release a Movies and TV Shows store that will surpass Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace:
“Many of you have been hearing rumblings about a video service that will allow you to download full-length TV shows and movies via PLAYSTATION Network for North America. While I don’t have any new announcements here for the PlayStation Nation, it’s already been confirmed that we’ll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you’ve seen or used. Ultimately the goal of the PLAYSTATION Network service will be to break through the overwhelming clutter of digital media to give you the TV, movies and gaming content you want.”
Battlefield: Bad Company will ship for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 23, Electronic Arts announced today.
For a limited time only, gamers will be able to purchase the Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company. The Gold Edition pack features exclusive content with behind-the-scenes action and strategy videos giving Battlefield: Bad Company players tricks and tips on how to own the battlefield. The Gold Edition also gives gamers early access to five unique weapons that players can take into battle. These weapons can also be unlocked after the launch of the game by ranking up to the highest level in multiplayer mode.
Sony’s gamble to put Blu-Ray into the PS3 was a risky one. When Sony’s other product lines have done poorly, the gaming division was there to produce enough profits to keep the stock holders Happy….
